Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers says England midfielder, Steven Gerrard will not "walk straight into" the starting line-up when he is fit. He faces stiff competiton and has to fight for his place in the first team.
Liverpool captain, who may be back for Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final against Blackburn, suffered a hamstring injury and has missed the last six matches.
"There is no-one in the squad who has a God-given right to walk straight into the team," said Rodgers.
"I have shown in my time here that players who are performing well, irrespective of price or status, they play - simple as that.
"Steven is very much a team man and if he was on the bench because the team was in good form and playing well, I think everyone respects that."
The reds captain will leave at the end of the season to join the MLS side, Los Angeles Galaxy in the USA.
